What we're all about

The Vickman Group and its mission were developed by Larry Vickman, MD.  Dr. Vickman was a career emergency physician and successful business consultant.  He worked for 18 years as an emergency physician in a trauma center in Boise, Idaho and during that time practiced full time clinical care, was actively involved in the business management of his group (Idaho Emergency Physicians, PA).  He attained an MHA from the University of Colorado in 1991 and become even more involved in the management and leadership of his group.  He was also a single parent of his two young children during those years.

He found it difficult to balance all of those issues and developed a profound sense of confusion about what to do next.  Some valuable guidance led him to take a sabbatical in Barcelona Spain which proved to be a very healing experience.  The sabbatical was followed by another year in Barcelona working in the Spanish Healthcare system as a consultant.  In his second year in Spain, he founded The Vickman Group which was focused on health care consulting.  Clients were local, regional, and national, in the US and in Spain.  Referrals in the US were obtained from such prestigious organizations as ACEP and the Idaho Medical Association.   Dr. Vickman shifted his focus as he returned from Spain to the US and developed more of a consulting practice that focused upon physician wellbeing, burnout, and individual assessments and counseling of professionals.  For a full CV on Dr. Vickman, click to access CV PDF (Acrobat Reader is available at no charge from the Adobe web site).  He began to write and speak on these and related topics.  The focus of The Vickman Group today is as follows:

The mission of The Vickman Group is to provide resources to physicians, nurses, executives and other professionals who have lost the joy of their personal or professional lives and to assist these individuals in healing and in the restoration of balance, happiness and fulfillment in their lives.

Dr. Vickman is the sole proprietor of this group and is in practice in Tampa, Florida.  His experience and expertise in this field come from several sources which include his own personal journey of medical practice, burnout and healing, extensive reading in the field, and a passion to provide a first-rate resource for other professionals who may be feeling some of this in their own lives.
