Course Overview:

This presentation will focus on issues surrounding burnout and its many dimensions.  This particular presentation is designed specifically for active and challenged professionals.  The concepts are applicable to those in teaching, health care, and law, and any other professionals working in our complex world of the 2000’s.  This particular presentation is designed for those in the financial management profession.  We will review the latest concepts and definitions of the condition we refer to as burnout and discuss tools for its actual measurement.  We will review the various factors contributed by both individuals and their organizations that predispose to burnout.  We will discuss therapeutic approaches and other interventions for both individuals and organizations.

Course Objectives:

The attendees of this program will learn the following in this program:

 

A conceptual definition of burnout

 

The signs and symptoms of burnout

 

The effects of burnout on your students and colleagues

 

The characteristics that professionals bear that predispose them to burnout.

 

The six organizational factors that are important to examine when looking at burnout.

 

What to do about burnout for yourself.

 

Program Modules

 

Module 1: Definitions, signs/symptoms/ effects on patients, tools to measure.

 

Module 2: What does the physician bring to the table that creates risk?

 

Module 3: What does the organization bear that creates or prevents risk?

     

Presentation Timeframe

This presentation is designed for a single session of 1.5 hours.

     

Audiences

 

Professionals:  Educators, attorney, financial managers, professional service system leaders, administrators, and managers

  Allied professional system professionals and support staff

Methodology:

This presentation is most effective with a group in a comfortable setting.  It will be highly interactive with a sharing of information and examples on each of the several topic areas. If considered valuable, a set of overhead transparencies would be used with copies for the audience as an adjunct to note taking.
